How a round is played

In Callbreak Quick, four players use a full 52-card deck. Each round begins with dealing — every player receives 13 cards. Once the cards are in hand, each player must place a "bid": the minimum number of tricks they will win this round. This number is generally between 1 and 13.
Once bidding is done, the first player leads with any card. The other three must follow the same suit if they have it. If they do not, they may cut with a spade (♠) — the trump suit in this game — or play any other card. After all four cards are played, the highest card wins the trick. A trump (spade) beats all other suits unless a higher spade is played.
After all 13 tricks are played, scores are calculated. A player who meets their bid earns points; failing to meet the bid adds negative points. Typically, the player with the highest total points across five rounds wins.
Card ranking and scoring system
In Callbreak Quick, card order from highest to lowest is: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. Among suits, spades rank highest — being the trump suit, a spade beats any card from the other three suits. Hearts, diamonds and clubs are equal to each other — following the lead suit is what matters.
Understanding the scoring rule is important. Say you bid 4, meaning you have committed to winning 4 tricks. If you win exactly 4 or more, you earn points equal to or greater than your bid. But if you win only 3? Then −4 points are deducted. This negative scoring forces you to think carefully about every decision.
Some variants also apply a small penalty for overbidding, so placing a very conservative bid is not always the best move. Placing the right bid is the heart of this game.
